Last Weekend: Informal Youth Gathering

His Eminence traveled to Saint Markella Cathedral last weekend (June 2) with Bishop Maximos. On Saturday evening, after the Vespers service, the two bishops went to the house of some local parishioners to meet with some 40 youth who gathered from around the United States. There was a meal and a question and answer period.

The next day, Metropolitan Demetrius stayed in the sanctuary while Bishop Maximos served the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral. After the Liturgy, the two hierarchs went to another home, and once again spoke to the youth of our Church. His Eminence addressed the youth stressing that they are the future; it was obvious that everyone was listening very carefully to the counsel of their bishops.

The hierarchs were very pleased that such an informal gathering bore such good fruit.

Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Mission, Tucson, Arizona

Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church is a beautiful mission parish near downtown Tucson, a city in southern Arizona. It was started in 1997 by Father John Bockman, who was a missionary Priest formerly serving missions in Tennessee and Massachusetts since 1990. Father John served the faithful in Tucson and the surrounding area in his home Chapel until his repose in November of 2000. His wife, Presbytera Valerie, continued to make her home Chapel available for the mission, with clergy from Saint Nectarios Orthodox Church in Seattle and His Eminence, Metropolitan Moses of Toronto (then of Portland), visiting to provide the Divine Services.
